Preparing before your first day
- Research the company through its website, social media and any internal systems you have access to
- Choose clothes that match the workplace culture – better slightly overdressed than too casual
- Arrive 10–15 minutes early to show respect and commitment
Making a good impression during the day
Be sociable but balanced: greet your colleagues, ask questions that show genuine interest in learning, and listen as much as you talk. Pay attention to how people communicate, how they dress and how breaks are taken.
If you fall ill on your first day
Unfortunately it happens. The recommended approach is to contact your manager promptly by phone or text in the morning, explain the situation honestly and follow the employer's rules for sick leave.
